Belgian courts: Anti finding out the haps in Belgium through Google News?

“A Belgian court ruled yesterday that it was illegal for Google to reproduce extracts from various Belgian newspapers on its Google News website. As worrisome as the decision may be for Google, it could potentially have far reaching implications for socially driven media in general. “

… I don’t really see this as being a true threat to socially driven media in Europe. Just because a Belgian court decides to do something stupid like prevent Google news readers from finding out all the breaking news happening in Belgium through tiny Google text snippets, I don’t think other countries will follow suit. I don’t think anyone is going to agree that this was a smart move. It seems like a total disconnect from the way content is now shared and distributed.
